Obituary for Helen Phillips - Kingsville Celebration Centre
Born 1926-Died August 28, 2023.
Born at Brantford Ontario of parents John Patrick Ryan and Mary Frances (nee O’Neil).
Educated in Brantford at St. Anne’s Elementary School.
After graduating from the Notre Dame Academy in Waterdown (near Hamilton) in 1944, she began her nursing training at Brantford General Hospital and in 1947 graduated as a Registered Nurse.
She received her Diploma of Nursing from the University of Toronto (1948).
Practiced for several years in the field of public health nursing.
After marrying William Gregory Phillips in 1950, relocated to Windsor and began a family.
Active within her new-found community of Windsor, (especially during the 1950’s and 1960’s) serving on the Windsor Public Library Board (overseeing the construction of the Budimir Public Library in south Windsor) and as a volunteer for many years with Maycourt and the Windsor Art Gallery.
Devoted spouse of William Gregory Phillips, throughout a marriage of over 65 years.
Loving mother of Douglas (Nancy), Gerard, Mary Josephine Kander (Len) and John (Vicki).
Grandmother to ten grandchildren including, Krista and Melissa, Mark (Katie-Sue) and Robert (Evan), Jeremy (Nicole), Carrie (Darren) and Joseph (Sarah), Andrew, Spencer and Marnie and great grandmother to Mya, Charlie and Teddy, and Atticus and Amara.
Pre-deceased by beloved sisters, Patricia McGraw and Mariann Vinall.
Will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
For Helen, family was first and foremost in her heart and her life. The life lessons she taught her four children gave them each a focus on what is important in living life with an emphasis on love, family and dedication to doing good for the community in which we all live.
In lieu of flowers donations to Heart and Stroke and the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated by the family.
Visitation will take place on Saturday September 2, 2023, at Kendrick Funeral Home Ltd, Kingsville from 9am-11am. We invite those who wish to remain to join us for Mom’s funeral service at 11am.

Interment will take place later at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Brantford, Ontario.
